Things On My Mind: A Roundup

As I've mentioned before, I'm a huge fan of the roundup post. Hopefully this collection of links has something interesting for everyone.

The bike above and the bench below? Nothing to do with the post really. I just like them.

Or maybe the bike symbolizes the metaphoric ride that we're taking together. And the bench is a pause on the ride. To catch our breath and then continue on our journey.

This post is a marathon. I applaud those of you who get through it, reading the links, in one sitting. Here we go!

Hee hee! I don't use "shall" in my normal spoken English at all, and I rarely use it in my everyday written English. Interestingly, our grammar texts always made one and one distinction only: use "shall" if the subject is nominative case (I or we); use "will" for all other subjects.

The legal usages of shall simply boggle the mind although I SHALL say that the nuances of shall vs. will are notable.

Thanks for thinking of me, and thanks for the link. Much appreciated!

So many links...so many resources...thanks.
I used to wear my hair in two cornrows - pinning the ends over on opposite sides - looked like one continuous loop. Hmmmm...maybe I'll revisit that style again.

nance - I thought of you immediately when I was reading this! I definitely don't normally use "shall" but I may think it when I'm doing a British accent in my head and baking scones or something. : )

can-can - You're welcome! Seeing the hair tutorials reveals so many mysteries! I've seen people with that hairstyle and had no idea how they did it. I guess you knew all along! :D

Hi Lisa, loved this post! I didn't check out every link but did get to see the Golden Phoenix, loved the video. Also checked out AD's article about Julia Child and learned about "fika". When I have time I will be revisiting your post to check out more of the links. Great post!
