Last week I took a cooking class at Brookline Adult & Community Education. One more benefit of teaching my scone baking class was getting credit towards taking a class there. There were so many classes to choose from!
I ended up taking Indian Fusion Dishes, since it's so different from the foods that I usually make. Plus, I love Indian food and never seem to get enough of it.
Our class divided up into four groups of two. Each group made one dish. I ended up making Aloo Quesadillas. The other dishes were Spicy Spaghetti With Vegetables, Smoked Eggplant Dip, and Semolina Custard. The food was fabulous! I thought that some of it might be too spicy for me, but it wasn't.
I'll definitely make these recipes at home, especially the Quesadillas. As good as they were, our Instructor, Shruti Mehta, mentioned another variation that sounded even better. I'm sure that I'll blog about it soon!
Also it was interesting that our Instructor mentioned that she's from the western part of India, Gujarat. She said that most of the Indian food that we see in the United States is from the southern or northern parts of India and that it's very rare to find a restaurant here with food from Gujarat. Another student from the same area agreed with her and they joked that they need to start a restaurant here. Sounds like a nice business opportunity for someone!
Well, I really enjoyed the class. Hopefully I can get a new camera (Life List #10 + #11) and then take a photography class next.
