A Tale Of Two Cities - Boston & Chicago

What a contrast between the clouds and fog on Friday and the bright sun on Saturday. Even with the clouds, the Chicago skyline still enchanted me. There's something about that city that made me feel very welcome and at home.

After our food blogger dinner, which I'll talk about more in a later post, we took the L or is it the EL? Either way, we took the train back to our hotel. It was the Red Line! Just like home! And guess what? The White Sox game had just let out and the train was filled with drunken Sox fans! Luckily they had won, so they weren't angry drunks. Just like home! And several people from Chicago complained about how the Red Line was always stopping for no reason and was very slow. Just like home!

During a break between Blogher sessions, I went to the top of the roof where they were setting up for the reception later that evening. It was fairly quiet, so I enjoyed the gorgeous view and took some pictures.

Since arriving back from Chicago, I had to jump back into work and have been eating leftovers.

You'd think a food blogger would have a few more things to eat in her fridge, so I got to some cooking tonight. Nothing fancy, just a simple quiche with some fresh basil, mushrooms, asiago, cheddar, and romano cheeses.

More Blogher posts coming up soon!

I have basically identical pictures from the pier.

Yesterday when I had been home for a few hours, I finally realized that I was expected to get my own clean towels, and make my own food again. I'm still trying to adjust. :)

Of course, I am waiting for Chicago Pizza!!;D

I think all public transportation, the El notwithstanding, is fundamentally the same when it involves sports fans!!

Welcome home. The quiche looks and sounds lovely.

Anali--It was so great to meet you at the dinner! And I'm so glad you took the el back to the hotel--we love the el and the subway here. Regarding the drunken Sox fans, they're much less obnoxious than drunken Cubs fans.

Welcome home, Anali! Glad you had a nice time. Any thoughts on Chicago cuisine will be interesting - deep-dish pizza, Chicago-style hot dogs? They eat some weird things in Chitown...

Anali,

It was great to meet you last weekend. I'm glad you survived the el and the drunken Sox fans.

What absolutely gorgeous pictures Anali! I have visited Chicago several times but didn't know about the Pizza, will have to try it the next time I visit. Lovely post, thank you!
My wife used to live in Chicago for a few years and she too raves about the amazing skyline! I've get to get there before too long.

Great photos, by the way!

"Nothing fancy, just a simple quiche with some fresh basil, mushrooms, asiago, cheddar, and romano cheeses." You're SO modest! : )

The quiche looks amazing!

So glad that you enjoyed our city! And as a Cubs fan, I have to say that the ChiSox fans are always angry...drunk or not. hehe..

Those are great pics. I've never been to Chicago, now I want to check it out :-)

And that quiche looks so good. I've never actually made one. I don't even know where to start. But I love eating it :-) So a recipe would be nice :-D, especially if it is simple...

I like the photos - but the conclusion of the post is that Chicago is the best alternate boston?

ha ha ha! I agree w/ Thinking Black Man - a "simple" quiche? "simple"2 me? slide from box to oven: no chopping, mixing or clean up involved! LOL! Glad u had a blast & a safe trip home, Sistah Anali:-).

karrie - It has been an adjustment being back. I feel like I just experienced so much that I'm ready to explode with posts, but I don't have enough time or mental organization to put them all down. I'm trying! ; )

asha - Sorry, no Chicago pizza stories!

nance - I think you're right. When I was coming home from work the other day, I tried to look at all the rowdy Red Sox fans through the eyes of a tourist. It seems much more exciting that way!

terry b - Welcome! It was great meeting you too! Oh, yeah, you are a two baseball team town. That would be interesting here if we had two teams. People are angry enough as it is, I cannot even imagine!

suldog - Thanks! It's nice being home, but to be honest, I wouldn't have minded spending a few more days there. I didn't have any weird food, but I had some great salmon on a stick at a cocktail reception. That was a little different.

joanna - Welcome! It was great meeting you too! Thanks for the directions on how to get back to the hotel, so we could get our bubble tea!

lotus reads - Thanks! It's funny all the comments about the pizza. I wasn't even thinking about having pizza when I got there.

the thinking black man - Oh you have to go visit soon! I think I've fallen in love with the city! And thanks for the compliments! The quiche was pretty good!

tera - It turned out pretty well!

sanjay - Thanks!

veronica - Welcome! LOL! That's hilarious! But they must be less angry since they won the World Series! As angry as Red Sox fans can get, there is definitely less anger since we won. I think we all felt a collective burden lifted. I think the whole state, maybe even all of New England feels a little less angry because of it. It's kind of silly, but I think it's true.

sai - Thanks! You sure have lived a lot of places!

cynthia - Yes it is Navy Pier! What a great location for a conference!

vasilisa - Thanks! I didn't use a recipe. I just throw things together. Quiche is really easy and quick. I used store bought pastry shells. Whisk together about 10 eggs. Add about one to two cups of milk, some salt, pepper, nutmeg, and and vegetables and/or meat of your choice. I like to use two to three different cheeses to add a more complex flavor. Try swiss, cheddar, parmesan, romano, asiago, etc. There are tons of cheeses! Cut up about 2 cups of these cheeses combined. Add cheese to egg mixture and pour into pastry shells. Bake at around 350 degrees for about 45 minutes or until fully cooked. If you need a better explanation or have questions, you can email me.

mosilager - Is that the conclusion that I gave? I love Boston and other cities too, but Chicago has a special place in my heart. And I still have more posts to go!

capcity - LOL! Thanks Cap! ; )
