How Many Attorneys Does It Take?

Take for what?

"Take to get a sewing machine to work."

That's what Se'Lah kept saying to me as we laughed out loud while trying to get my sewing machine working. I tried myself several months ago. Couldn't do it. My mom tried a few months later. Same thing.

Then luckily for me, Se'Lah, the blogger behind Necessary Room, found my blog through Grey Street Girl. We've been commenting on each other's blogs and started emailing too. Se'Lah saw that I quilted and said that she was a quilter too, but that she used a sewing machine. I told her that the only reason that I was quilting by hand was because I couldn't get my sewing machine to work. So she kindly offered to help me figure it out.

Yesterday we met and had a wonderful time. She's really funny, a wiz on the sewing machine, and has the coolest camera! And we realized that we went to the same school, but had never met before! What a small world!

Well, it took us a while, but we got the sewing machine going and I sewed my first stitches! Thanks Se'Lah!

Oh, and to answer the question, "How many attorneys does it take to get a sewing machine to work?" Well, I initially replied, "Hopefully not more than two." Because that was all that we had. But I just realized that if we count Grey Street Girl, who helped us find each other. Well, that makes three!

BTW, I mentioned you in my latest blog post! Hope you like it...

Isn't it just wonderful when new friendships are formed. And sewing?! That's serious bonding. Here's to blogging and the friendships it brings.

You know, I used to make all my clothes back when I was in high school. Last summer, I dug out my old sewing machine to take in some pants. It took me an hour to try and remember how to thread the silly thing!

Hi Lisa,

I accidentally deleted your comment and I can't remember the name of the designer you mentioned! (Sorry!) If you get a minute (no rush), I'd love to know the name so I can check the fashion out...I have to say, I was in LOVE with Michelle Obama's Derek Lam white inauguration dress! I don't know if you saw it, but it was GORGEOUS...she looked awesome...have a great night!

It was surely fun I must say. I had not sprung out my sewing machine in a while, except the occasion called for it a few weeks ago, so please forgive me for my rusty teaching skills
;-). You must have thought to yourself: "is this rasta chic for real?".

But in the end, JAH provides. Glad to finally get you sewing. I look forward to seeing your creations.

One Love. ~ Se'Lah

kirti - I love the post! Oh and I added a comment with the name of the designer. Her name is Sophie Theallet.

christina - Welcome! Making new friends has been one of the coolest things about blogging. I was talking to my mom about this the other day. She was saying how my experience is so different from how many people view bloggers. Like we are stuck behind the computer and never leave the house!

How cool! Your sewing machine now works and you get a new friend!! Sounds like I need to be in the Boston area, my sewing machine is acting up too!!!! Just the other day I was trying to use it and the thread kept getting jammed up in the bobbin area, any suggestions? :)

Attorneys? Doing something constructive and not simply critical? Wait, hold on-- the earth's spinning backwards. Or at least in my office. : ) So glad you were about to get up & running & with a new friend!

my mom is a quilter and let me tell you, I am in awe of the ART she creates. And there is so much of the personality of the people-their stories and reasons for making the quilts, their personal preferences. I think quilting might be the most personal art out there.

so glad you got your machine up and running!

nina - That bobbin sure does cause a lot of problems for people. It would be great if you were in the Boston area! :D

bipolarlawyecook - Hey there! Great to see you blogging again! It was a great time. We should get together again too! : )

brandi - I will be so happy if I can finish this quilt by the end of the summer. I didn't sew at all this week. I know. Bad, bad, quilter! : )
