What The TJX!?
I was very disappointed to read that allegedly TJX plans to have a "Customer Appreciation Sale" which is supposed to ease the sting that customers felt as a result of a customer data security breach. The store wide sale is not part of the settlement according to the Judgment.
An article, states that the sale is only one day, Thursday, January 22, 2009, and "gives customers 15 percent off their entire purchases on Thursday, excluding gift cards and layaway purchases. The sale is being held at all of the company's stores. TJX operates T.J. Maxx, Marshalls, HomeGoods, and A.J. Wright."
I didn't know anything about the sale until late tonight and couldn't find an official press release from TJX. Having to spend any money in order to partake in this sale seems like a slap in the face to me. Especially when you compare this 15% off sale to the free cosmetics being given away this week. By the way, I got Sarah Jessica Parker's Lovely Bath & Shower Gel. It smells so good! Now I really want to get the perfume too. But I digress.
TJX could have given away free gift cards or vouchers to customers. Maybe $5.00 or $10.00? That would have created more good will, gotten customers into the store, and most people would have probably ended up spending more money.
A few years ago, Staples gave away $7.50 vouchers on "Consumer Day" as part of a class action settlement and that didn't break them. I know the economic times are different now, but still. What's up TJX? Just my two cents.

dmarks - Yes, TJX Companies, Inc. operates a bunch of stores including Marshalls, TJ Maxx, etc.
asha - I didn't go. Partly, because I was too disgusted with them and I had a $10.00 coupon from Target, so I went there. I bought some new mixing spoons! I wore most of them down and had to throw them away.
jeseem - Hey! Good to see you here. I didn't go to any of the TJX stores, so I don't know what happened. I went to their rival!
