Catching Up - Fun + Food

I've fallen behind in my blogging, so this post is two for one. What a bargain! Don't you feel like you're really getting your money's worth now?

Blogmeet - #1

The picture above is of the Boston skyline. I snapped it pretty quickly with my camera phone. Before we all had to leave, I took a picture of our surroundings, so I could show the sunny day we had for our blogmeet. Yes, I met some more bloggers!

A little more than a week ago, I met Ali from RN Mom and Kelly from Mocha Momma.

We had a wonderful time and enjoyed talking and sitting outside on one of Boston's best summer days. Before we knew it, a couple of hours had passed and it was time to go.

Quincy Dining - #2

Last weekend, G and I visited La Paloma, which is one of the best Mexican restaurants around. I originally thought that we might get some Pad Thai to go, but then we decided that we should try something different. We drove around kind of aimlessly for a bit, because we couldn't settle on what kind of food or where.

After wasting way too much gas, we decided to drive back to Quincy. We looked at the menu at The Jury Room near the courthouse in Quincy Center. I remembered reading this review and figured it would be nice place to try. The menu seemed okay and the Bar food looked good and kind of fun.

One problem that I can see The Jury Room having is that another new restaurant, The Fat Cat, also recently opened and they are just across the street. They are stiff competition. I have also heard great things about them, so we crossed the street and looked at their menu. We were both more impressed, so we went inside.

The problem was that it was so crowded and noisy that we would not have been able to have a conversation. There were also people milling about outside. It was a Saturday night and we decided that we'd prefer to go back at a slower time. I'd still like to try The Jury Room too, but I wish they had a website. As I was writing this post, I looked and didn't see one if it exists. What's with that? I find it amazing that there are still so many restaurants and bakeries without websites or blogs. I look for an online presence for any business and that includes supermarkets, restaurants, bakeries, and diners.

So after all this restaurant comparison shopping, we decided on La Paloma. I hadn't been there for years, but G had mentioned it before, so I suggested it. It's located in a strip mall on Newport Avenue and is very easy to pass by. From the outside it looks tiny and not too inviting, but it's actually quite spacious inside and very pleasant. The service was great and the food and drinks were just as good. We shared the Paella and Chicken Quesadillas.

I tried taking some pictures, but the restaurant is dimly lit and they came out really badly. La Paloma has a really nice dessert menu including Flan, Bunuelos, Tres Leches Cake, and Key Lime Pie. We took some Flan to go, so that we could eat it and enjoy a movie at home. The Flan was really good, but so small. I wanted more! I guess we need to go back and maybe I have to learn to make some myself.

*Updated*And speaking of sweets - Happy National Ice Cream Day! Check out the ice cream roundup for the last ice cream event that I participated in.

Just spent a pleasant 20 minutes or so catching up with what you have been doing over the last couple of weeks. Of course you are so busy Anali.
Am I bit dull or did you forget to add the chocloate scone recipe.
Looks interesting
Cheers

I hate the whole drama of deciding upon a restaurant. Glad you found one that you both liked and got good food and service.

Flan's not hard to make, but since you don't use dairy milk, you'll have to play around awhile with recipes. Good luck with that adventure!

so simple - No you're not dull! ; ) I didn't forget the recipe. I just decided not to put it up. It's just a slight variation of the same scone recipe that I always use.

I added some cocoa powder and white chocolate chips, decreased some of the flour and eliminated the raisins. I figured if anyone asked for the recipe, then I'd put it up or email them. I think maybe people are getting bored with the scones...

nance - Thanks Nance! I'm sure I'll figure out something eventually. ; )
