Snow Buggy!
I was very surprised to see that it snowed last night and my beloved bug is, well not really covered in snow, but looks like it was dusted with some confectionary sugar. This is just the right amount of snow for me.
My mom's birthday was yesterday and I made her a birthday cake! She is still really tired and needs to sleep a lot for the next few weeks. So she won't have to cook this week, I made some meals for her and my father. My mom requested chicken pot pie and lasagna. Very good stick to your ribs winter food!
It was my first time making a chicken pot pie. I looked at a bunch of recipes and they all seemed basically the same. Peas and carrots in chicken gravy with some seasoning and cut up pieces of chicken. Put in ready made pie crust, then put another pie crust on top. I cooked the chicken, but used frozen vegetables and a mix for the gravy.
For the lasagna, I use the noodles that you don't have to cook beforehand. They cook in the oven. Add sauce to bottom of pan and a layer of noodles. I then layered pieces of sweet orange pepper, asparagas, mozzarella cheese, noodles, peppers, cooked chicken, parmesan cheese and more noodles. Cover with sauce, more mozzarella cheese and some basil. I hope they like them!
And a random short movie review. G and I saw Children of Men and were very disappointed. It had so much potential, a great premise and wonderful actors. The movie takes place 20 years in the future and no children have been born for 18 years. Clive Owen, Julianne Moore, and Michael Caine are in it. All great actors, who I really like. Now I know they can act, so it must have been the writing or directing that went wrong. There also seemed to be a lighting problem. I don't think I should have been able to notice that. Much of what happens isn't explained, so things don't make sense. You can see where they are really trying, but they just can't pull it off. Save yourselves and avoid it. You may not even want to rent the DVD on this one. Such a shame.

The recipe is Yummy.
Love the picture of your buggy - I'm very partial to them because mom owned one for years and years.
Yes, I read that the screen version of "Children of Men" was disappointing, I definitely won't be going to see it.
Here's wishing your mom a very happy birthday!
It is great that you live close to them and can be there for them. God bless you!
lotus reads - Thank you! I'll tell her! And life is too short to waste two hours on a bad movie.
lalitha - I'll tell her and I'll find out tomorrow! My father will say they're good no matter what, but my mom will let me know if she doesn't like them.
sanjay - Thank you! Maybe you can get something different from the movie than I did. Please let me know what you think of it.
sai - I'll convey your birthday wishes! It is nice being close by. I must admit, I've considered moving, but it would be very difficult for me to leave them.
That looks like 3 woderful Birthday gifts....I just put 2 lbs on from looking at the tasty images.
Happy Birthday to mom and I'm sure you 2 enjoyed the light dusting. Nice to look at but makes for a messy traffic day for some. I'm ready for 2 feet and get it over with (lol)
You and mother be sure to have a wonderful week with all those delicious leftovers.
Happy Sipping!

And I do keep wondering when we're going to get the big storm. We all know it's coming. It's just looming out there. I hope it's not in May...
i saw children of men last weekend and felt very mixed about it... i think, as you said, that there was a lot of potential, and it served what seems to be a necessary cultural function at this time-- to take the current political state of things to its logical conclusion and imagine what could go terribly wrong. but its gender politics were muddled at best... what was the message of the kid? i did appreciate the idea that the future of humanity is multi-racial/immigrant, but there was a lot that was contradictory & well, simply bizarre.
Happy Birthday to Mom!
I'm going out to eat Italian tomorrow...the preview you gave is getting me ready.
amisha - I so wanted to like this movie. And like you said, there were a lot of issues raised and some interesting symbolism, but it just didn't work, in my opinion. The message with the kid could have been hope, but then maybe not. I don't want to say too much and spoil it for people who may see it.
wheresmymind - I would like to take a class actually. I have much to learn!
asha - She sure does! And thanks!
suldog - Uh oh! Sorry! But you should have lunch anyway. : ) I hope it was a good one! I'll pass your birthday wishes along!
nance - No more snow please! Oh, the lake effect snow. I think we had that a couple of times here, but it doesn't seem to happen very often. Enjoy your meal!
jennifer - I really expected a lot from the movie. Maybe that was the problem. I expected too much. If you go in thinking it will be horrible, then maybe it won't seem so bad with such low expectations.
You take care Anali...your blog friend Peter.
luckily I didn't see the movie 'children of men'. From the reviews, didn't look like a movie of my tastes. thankfully I was right.
and wishing your mom happy birthday and a quick recovery
jeseem - You called it on this movie! And I'll send her your good wishes!
I never cook lasagna noodles. Too lazy. :)
I admit that I'm a lazy cook too! I'm always trying to save time.
