Capture Your Summer Memories + Share Them

A few years ago, I shared on this blog one of the most precious family photos that I have. Just in case you don't click on the links, it's a picture of me as a little girl, sitting on my mother's lap, with my grandmother standing behind my mother, and my great-grandmother sitting beside my mother. Four generations!

Just a click of a photo and that instant was saved forever. I'm so grateful to be able to see that short moment in time, because I don't remember it.

The picture above, from left to right, is again my grandmother, but this time to her right are her sisters. It seems that a lot of my summer family pictures are at the beach! I'm not sure when this picture was taken, but I love it!

I'm one of the oldest cousins on my mother's side of the family, so I'm one of the few from my generation who remembers my great aunts. I've seen this picture a few times over the years and always wanted a copy, but never got one. It looks like it might have been taken in the 60's or 70's. Just learned from an aunt that this was in Onset, circa 1969.

Over the 4th of July, I was able to visit with many relatives and go through some more pictures. Some of them I have never seen before. One of my uncles suggested that I take a picture of some of the pictures with my camera. So I did and it worked! Now I have a bunch more photos.

I highly recommend this to everyone. It's much nicer than swiping a photo from someone, which has been known to happen.  Since many of you are visiting with family and friends over the summer, this is a great time to hear those old stories and add pictures to your collection.

The picture below was one that I thought was especially interesting. I love the car and these two men all dressed up and posing in a field somewhere. Quite random! It looks like it might have been in the 30's. I have no idea.

Nobody in the family knew who these men were nor where or when the picture was taken. It's a good reminder to add dates, names and places on your photos. You never know who will be looking at them 75 or more years in the future and won't have a clue.

The picture of my grandmother and great aunts above makes me think about our family. Especially, because I don't have children of my own. None of my great aunts were able to have children. So even though my extended family is huge, the family line only continued because of my grandmother. She had 12 children. One died as a baby, but 11 lived. One who is a history maker himself. I've grown up with lots of aunts, uncles, and cousins and couldn't imagine it any other way.

So whatever you're doing this summer, I hope you take lots of pictures and share the memories for generations to come.

Lovely photos! I happen to be going home to the 'Lou on Tuesday in honor of my niece's 18th birthday and send-off to college so I will take lots of photos and instead of slipping a few photos away - I will take photos with my camera and/or take them to be scanned. Family - nothing like them. I will be surrounded by family love and my adult children will both be there. Recently, my brother sent some photos of relative at one of our baptismals in the MS River. I've written a book about this and hope to publish it soon. Thanks for this post.

can-can - Thank you! Sounds like a great time! Looking forward to hearing more about your book as well.
Love the photos. We have a number of photos taken over the years that we have no idea who they are. Every occasion we have with relatives or others from the past we might pull out the photos and get the story. There have been a number of great ones.

laura - Thank you! That's a good idea to keep pulling out the photos. Because we never know what someone will remember and tell us. Even if we think we know the story. Everyone has a different perspective
