DIY: Remake A Goodwill Find

I've never been one to collect junk. And recently I've been getting rid of many things that I've been holding onto for too many years. So my closet has gotten an extra purging.

Since the budget is pretty small for any extras, I went to Goodwill to see what I could find to spice up my wardrobe a bit.  This shirt was only five bucks. I really liked the fabric and color and decided that maybe I could fix it up. I prefer V-necks to button down shirts and like tops a bit shorter in length than this one. Plus I like the shirts that have a bit of ruffle but not too much. And I wanted the sleeves shorter.

The shirt is very sheer, so I'll have to wear something under it, but I thought that it could be a fun top. In the back of my mind was the Tova Top by Wiksten. So I thought I'd put my creativity to the test and see what I could come up with.

Before I started cutting, I looked at a few Tova Tops, like this one. I cut the collar and cuffs off, then removed all the buttons. Because my sewing machine is not working again and I'm no seamstress anyway, I took it to my dry cleaners.

Oddly enough, I never have dry cleaning done anymore, but they do alterations. The sewing was done there and voila! While, it's not a Tova Top, that was the inspiration. The sewing cost a bit more money than I had planned on, but I have a unique design. I really need to get my sewing machine fixed!

The finishing touch on the top is the wooden button that I sewed on today. I bought it at regeneration, a really cool shop in Roslindale. Love this store! I think the owner said that the buttons are handmade in Alabama.  So it was nice to be able to purchase an American made product.

Regeneration wasn't the only place that I visited in Roslindale. I had a relaxing stroll and visited quite a few lovely shops.
