Signs of Spring: Daffodils

This weekend was stocking up time at Trader Joe's. Who could pass up the daffodils on sale? There's nothing like the yellow of a daffodil. Well, maybe the sun. Or an egg yolk.

Daffodils are one of my favorite harbingers of spring. Did you know that there is an American Daffodil Society? Their number one goal is "[t]o actively promote, in a variety of ways, increased public awareness and appreciation of the daffodil as an important plant." I do love plants!

If you're a true daffodil enthusiast, you can even follow them on Twitter and find them on Facebook too.

Here's a listing of upcoming daffodil events. And for those of us in the New England area, below is a listing of a few daffodil celebrations taking place close to home.

Daffodil Festival Weekend: Nantucket Island, MA, April 29 - May 1, 2011

Seven States Daffodil Society Show: Boylston, MA, May 7 - 8, 2011

Daffodil Days: Bristol, RI, April 9 - May 1, 2011

Meriden Daffodil Festival: Meriden, CT, April 30 - May 1, 2011

There's still time to plan a nice day trip if you'd like to go!

They're planted outside of our office, so one of the first signs that Spring is truly arriving is when they poke themselves up. It's starting now!

I have been seeing them at TJ and need to get some daffodils. Back east they are really a true sign of spring.

esme - Unfortunately, these flowers are long gone now. I was hoping to get some yesterday, but didn't find any. : (
