{Simply Sunday} Inspiration From Paulo Coelho

Paulo Coelho is one of my favorite authors. Have you read his novel The Alchemist? It's an amazing work.

I took it out of the library a few years ago, but really need to buy it. The Alchemist is one of those books that you'll refer to over a lifetime.

Recently, I started following Paulo Coelho on twitter. I read this tweet yesterday: if it happens once, it may never happen again. If it happens twice, it will happen a 3rd time. That statement is both incredibly encouraging and horrifying at the same time. Something to ponder.

I visited Mr. Coelho's blog today and read the post: The Magic Moment. Here's a portion below:
"We have to take risks. We can only truly understand the miracle of life when we let the unexpected manifest itself.

Every day – together with the sun – God gives us a moment in which it is possible to change everything that makes us unhappy. Every day we try to pretend that we don’t realize that moment, that it doesn’t exist, that today is just the same as yesterday and will be the same as tomorrow. But if you pay attention, you can discover the magic instant.

It may be hiding at the moment when we put the key in the door in the morning, in the silence right after dinner, in the thousand and one things that all seem the same to us. This moment exists – a moment when all the strength of the stars passes through us and lets us work miracles."

I'm going to try and grab that moment today. There are some people that I've been meaning to call. It's time to catch up. Maybe a few other things too. Something simple to do this Sunday. What will you do?

Haven't read The Alchemist (currently reading The Help). I enjoyed what you shared and there is so much truth in it. Enjoy the day catching up and I will continue to look for that moment. :)

Coelhos book The Alchemist is totally based on an old Jewish story from the stetls of Europe with almost exactly the same ingredients. That story was written down by the author Sholem Aleichem. Coelho just changed the names, the places and added some stars. Sorry but I read the book and Aleichems old story and i can't see tjat Coelhos work has really got originality. Best greetings. Amintou

Just adding: The story is truly fantastic and it's moral is worth understanding and spreading. But Coelho shouldn't have been quiet about it's orgins, that is as if he pretended that he invented the story himself.
All the best again, Amintou

I've enjoyed The Alchemist as well and can see that it has ingredients in it that are similar to other books of wandering, gathering wisdom, finding what we sought was within us all along. This is archetypal wisdom (sp?). I have been in the reaching out stage for a while now. Continued joy and discovery.

kiva - I'm very interested to hear what you think of The Help. I have very mixed emotions about it. I guess I need to read it and judge for myself.

amintou - Welcome and thanks for the input! I'll have to investigate that more.

so simple - Hey Gilli! I have read The Zahir! I actually bought that book. From now on, any of his books I just need to buy them. I haven't heard of the Millenium Trilogy. Sounds interesting though!

can-can - I definitely agree that it's a book filled with archetypal wisdom. Which is part of its success. Stories like that have been written through history, because we can all relate to it at a very primal level. And the man has a way with words!

tracy - He's really incredible! Happy week to you too! I have to drop by your blog. I'm so behind in my reading.

el - You're welcome! I'm sure that you'll find his books to be a real treat!
