Apple Banana Bread + Boston Area Holiday Events

Last weekend I tweeted that I was baking Apple Banana Bread. I finally wrote up the the recipe. I don't know why it took me so long. I just made a few changes to the Buckwheat Banana Bread recipe.

You can find the recipe below, but first I wanted to mention a couple of local area holiday events that I was emailed about.
This Saturday, November 28th, there will be a holiday reception from 5-8 pm at the Boston Handmade Downtown Gallery.

For those of you who want to support local artists, artisans and craftspeople, this is a great way to do it. There are many incredibly talented people on Etsy. You'll get to meet some of those same people in person at the reception.

As their website says: "By Supporting Locally Grown Business you can give gifts this holiday that are made in small studios NOT in factories."

If you can't make the reception, you can still do your holiday shopping with them. Boston Handmade Downtown is open Wednesdays through Sundays, 11am - 7pm. You can also find them on facebook and twitter.

Now all factories aren't bad. And if you're going to deal with factories, let it be local and producing something good. Have you ever visited a chocolate factory? I haven't. But Somerville's own Taza Chocolate is having a Winter Open House and opening the doors to their chocolate factory. You can get a free tour on Saturday, December 5th from 10am - 6pm. If you like, RSVP for the tour on facebook.

And I just remembered that I wanted to remind you that there are still a few days left to win the $150.00 Spa Gift Card. You have until November 30th to enter to win. And now the recipe! Enjoy!

Apple Banana Bread

1 cup all-purpose flour
1 cup whole-wheat flour
1/2 tsp. sea salt
2 tsp. baking powder
1/2 cup Smart Balance
3/4 cup brown sugar
1 cup vanilla rice milk
2 eggs
1 cup mashed bananas (about 3)
1/2 cup peeled and chopped apples
1 tsp. vanilla extract
1 tsp. ground cinnamon

In a medium bowl, combine all ingredients well. Oil and flour a loaf pan. Bake at 350degrees for about 65 minutes. Let cool before removing from pan.

Apple Banana Bread...oh, this look so good, Anali! I'm not big on bananas (I know I'm the only one, I think!) and the only way I can eat them is in banana bread or muffins--basically with lots of sugar--LOL! ;o) Wish I weren't so far--would love to see that Boston handmade market. Being an Etsy seller msyself--thanks for the plug! There are so many very talented folks creating and selling at Etsy. Hope you are having a great holiday weekend, my friend :o) ((HUGS))

Peppermint extract in your coffee? Mmm... I love that idea. And I love that apple banana bread. My mom just made an apple cranberry bread which was delicious too. I hope your holiday was wonderful, Lisa!

tracy - LOL! So you have to hide your bananas in the sweets?! I'm a huge fan of Etsy! It's such a cool way to find original things and help support small business. Your shop has such pretty things too!
