The Week: In Review
I'm really enjoying the television show The Listener. Which usually means that nobody else is watching it and it will soon be cancelled. Hopefully I'm wrong. *Updated 7/30/09* Unfortunately my prediction was correct. I just read an article stating that NBC pulled The Listener.
Maybe I should be podcasting this post, so that I can use my whispery voice as I say "The Listener" and you could feel the full effect. In keeping with the style of "The Listener," let me recap this week.
The Food: Today, I baked these blueberry muffins. They never go out of style!
The Award: Esme gave me The Humane Award. Thank you Esme!
The award honors bloggers that we feel are kindhearted individuals. No doubt many of you deserve this award, but I would like to pass this award on to two bloggers in particular who have been very supportive with their frequent and kind comments, which I really appreciate. Candelaria of Good & Plenty, and Kirti of K. Thank you and congratulations!
The Books: Esme had an extra copy of Zagat's Boston Restaurants 2009/10 that she kindly sent me this week. It was such a nice surprise! Recently I was in a bookstore buying a gift for someone and I saw Zagat near the register. I really wanted to buy it for myself, but could not justify the expense. Within a couple of weeks, Esme offered to give it to me.
This past week, I also received a book from Kirti, by winning her book giveaway. I won The Brief Wondrous Life of Oscar Wao, which I've been wanting to read since I heard the author, Junot Diaz, interviewed on NPR. Again, thank you Kirti and Esme. You ladies are awesome!
The Word: Remember for my 3rd Anniversary post where I wrote that my word and theme for this year is COLLABORATION? Well, so far the theme is working. Stay tuned for another guest post coming up!
And if any of you have any interesting and creative ideas for collaborating with me, please let me know!
The Movies: I forgot this, so this is an update a bit after this post was originally published. Last night, I saw Frozen River, which was recommended to me by Asha. Both G and I really liked it. You see where desperation pushes people to do things that they would never in a million years picture themselves doing. It also explores race relations between whites and the Mohawk Nation.
Yesterday afternoon, my brother and I saw Orphan. It was better than I expected. My brother liked it too. I hadn't seen a scary movie in a really long time. It kept me on the edge of my seat and there was a serious super surprise twist at the end. It was kind of strange though, because what is the point of it? Be really careful about who you adopt, because they might be a crazed killer?
