Taste Quincy - Restaurant Week
Another unplanned posting here. I was checking my Sitemeter stats and followed back a search that led someone to my blog. Interestingly enough, I found a website that I had always hoped existed. It's called Taste Quincy. For those of you who aren't familiar with Massachusetts, I live in Quincy, which is just a few miles south of Boston. There are some wonderful restaurants here, which is a huge understatement. And a ton of bakeries! I told you about the new cupcake place, Babycakes, here.
On the website, there is even an invitation from Mayor Phelan inviting everyone to come and dine in Quincy. Here is his invite.
"Welcome to the City of Presidents. The City of Quincy is a community that is rich in its history, natural resources and cultural diversity, as well as its exotic tastes and fine cuisine!
We are committed to Quincy’s tourism and economic development initiatives and are eager to help promote the City of Quincy as the South Shore’s premium dining destination. As Mayor, I am proud that our city has grown to offer over 200 dining establishments. United, our restaurants and food establishments can be instrumental for not only setting the stage for economic investment and increased tourism, but for the dramatic revival of city.
As Mayor, and a regular visitor to our cities fine restaurant scene, I welcome you to come and ‘taste’ all Quincy has to offer."
I had been wondering why there wasn't more of a push to promote all the fine eating establishments here. I'm really glad to see that it's happening. Coming up very soon, from October 28th through November 2nd, Quincy will be having its own Restaurant Week. I'm looking forward to it and may just have to try a new place or two.
Back in 2002, I realized that I had a major love for food and writing and needed to find a way to combine them. Well, opportunity knocked and I accepted. Long story short, I ended up writing three restaurant reviews for the book Hungry?Boston.
The title is a little misleading, because there are restaurants in the book that go beyond Boston's city limits. I wrote about three Quincy restaurants. It was really fun! I had some great meals, but I had to stick to the guidelines for the book, so I couldn't get super creative with the reviews. And I wasn't doing the food photography yet. But looking back, I can see that it was kind of inevitable I would end up food blogging.
And as it happened, on my way home from physical therapy this morning, before I even found the Taste Quincy website, I stopped at Montilio's, which has been around since 1947 and is known around the world. Luckily for me, it's right on my way home and I decided to pick up some bread.
Last night I finished up the last of the little loaf that I baked. I decided to try the Multi-Cran Pecan bread. I haven't eaten any yet, but it sure looks good.

GO INDIANS!!!!!
:)
Will you be attending the game on Saturday?
nina - LOL! Well, I'm glad to know that you're a true fan, so thanks for the visit! ; ) And I must say...
GO SOX!!!!!!!!!!!!
Unfortunately, I don't have money or connections like that, so I won't be at the game. I haven't been to even a regular game in years. The ticket prices are insane!
biplolarlawyercook - I'm looking forward to trying some new places. I think they are still signing up restaurants. I hope that most places have some good specials.
tera - You're so right! Running a restaurant seems like one of the toughest businesses. They are always closing and then new ones taking their place. The ones that stay around are really working hard and very good at what they do.
