Maybe The Best Dessert Of My Life

I don't have sufficient words to convey how much I love this dessert. I think it's called a Mojito Ice Cream Sandwich. You all know that I love desserts. I've baked many. Eaten many. Not all desserts are good. If a dessert isn't worth the calories and fat that I'll have to ingest, I won't finish it. This dessert was worth every calorie, bit of fat, salt and whatever else was in there. No regrets. And this is all without chocolate!

The cookies had the perfect amount of crispness on the outside and chewiness in the middle and a sharp yet sweet citrus flavor. The ice cream was rich and creamy, almost vanilla egg noggy. I broke up the cookie and dipped the pieces in the raspberry coulis. Such happiness in my mouth!

After all this, I guess I should give the name of the restaurant. It's called Laurel and is located on Berkely Street, just a short walk away from the Arlington T.

My three friends were already seated when I arrived. I was late, but we had a really nice time. We hadn't gotten together in a while, so we had a lot of catching up to do. One of our friends wasn't able to make it, so she was definitely missed. Hopefully next time our group will be complete.

The service was wonderful. And this restaurant has great ambience. It's spacious with a high ceiling and plenty of room between tables. Many restaurants pack in as many tables as possible, seemingly without any concern that we end up practically sitting in a stranger's lap. It's not like that at Laurel. There are big windows and the decor is calm and and soothing.

We shared Crispy Fried Calamari with Lemon Caper Pesto as our appetizer. It was really good. For my dinner entree, I had the Lobster & Shrimp Stuffed Ravioli, Oven Roasted Garlic, Leeks & Portobello Mushrooms, Fresh Basil Vodka Tomato Cream Sauce. I loved it and there was a decent amount of lobster in it too. My one disappointment was the bread. It was nothing special.

Laurel has a very nice website and they are getting ready to update their menus. I didn't see a dessert menu listed on the website, which would be a nice addition. I hope they change this when they do their updates. I'm looking forward to seeing more and definitely making another trip back.

*Updated 10/19/2010* I just read some sad news. Laurel closed and their website confirms it. However, it looks like they may open under new ownership. Not sure if there will be a name change. When I find out, I'll update this post. And it may just call for a new visit too.

Hello Anali,

I see you are still helping people with their diets (lol). That dessert looks so darn good – I see what you mean; who cares about calories, fat, carbs, etc …you just enjoy that one and worry about the laps later.

Wouldn’t it be nice if we could buy metabolisms on eBay? Ha-ha!!!

Happy Sipping!

Dezel

tera - Oh it was! ; )

bipolarlawyercook - Enjoy! ; )

dezel - Hello stranger! Good to see you back here. : ) Unfortunately, if good metabolisms were sold on eBay, they would all be sold out and only multi-billionaires could afford to buy them!
