Eat, Pray, Love & Go Sox!
This morning, I was in an elevator leaving the hospital with my brother and his program manager. We were talking about the Red Sox. In case I haven't mentioned it before, my brother is a Yankees fan. I still buy him Red Sox gear for gifts and he surprised me today by wearing both a Red Sox hat and shirt! He's now rooting for the Red Sox and we were happily discussing how well the Sox are doing.
The elevator stopped and a priest walked in. I know this sounds like the beginning of a bad joke, but it's not. The priest couldn't help but hear us talking about the Sox, so he says for us to pray hard for the Sox, if we believe in that sort of thing. We all agreed that we would. Every little bit helps. Then we all talked about how it's so nice seeing people so happy and coming together all because of the Sox.
Some people in other parts of the country may think that Bostonians are cold. That's a whole different post, but I can tell you this. When the Sox are winning and in the World Series, normally reserved people start talking to everyone. We can't contain ourselves! We're just busting with happiness and pride! The Sox are doing a great job. Tonight's game was really amazing. Our pitchers, Hideki Okajima, Curt Schilling, and Jonathan Papelbon really took care of business.
I know it may seem like I'm just wandering off here, but please humor me for a bit. I read the book Eat, Pray, Love by Elizabeth Gilbert a few weeks ago. A co-worker lent it to me. I finished it, then went out and bought it. It's that good. I loved it so much and knew that I'd refer to it again. It's the kind of uplifting book you need to read when you want to know that dreams really can come true, that you can transform your life.
Elizabeth Gilbert is an amazing writer, very funny and real. While reading the book, you'll feel like she's talking to you, about you. I identified with many different passages in the book. Some so strongly that I had to put it down for a while and call someone to talk it out.
She was on Oprah the day that I finished the book, but I was at work and missed the interview. The same day I received an email from Borders promoting the book, which is where I ended up going to buy it.
For weeks, I've been trying to figure out how to post about the book, but nothing was striking me. When the priest mentioned prayer, the title of the book came to mind. I started thinking about the great food at a Sox game. How many Sox fans pray for them. And God knows we love them. The book was about how your life can be in shambles and nobody, not even you know how to change things to reach your dreams. But what it comes down to is you have to believe in something greater, follow your intuition, have faith and miracles can happen. Go Sox!
*Updated 11/24/2013* I removed the link to the video interview. Because Borders went out of business, the website and video no longer exist.

I so agree with your impressions of "Eat,Love,Pray", I read it a few months ago and absolutely loved it. Funnily enough there were many readers that were not as impressed. I found that the book contained a lot of wisdom between its pages and, like you said, many of the passages were so uplifting. Wonderful that you own your own copy, I think I should buy one for myself too!
That book sounds interpreting, will try and get it!
Happy Halloween, have a great weekend Anali. See you next week!:)
and you go, too, girl!
p.s. feel I need to fess up that I'm a loser Rockies girl. gotta do it: them's my roots. but it looks like you guys are gonna slaughter us.
I am back. :)
asha - I'm so nervous about tonight's game!! The air is so different in Colorado. I read an article where the writer was joking that the Rockies were complaining about the soupy sea level air here! ; ) Happy Halloween to you too!
suldog - Go Sox!!! Tonight is such a big night!! And I need lots of hits, so I can get to 148!
suttonhoo - You have to be proud of your roots! And I can't count the Rockies out yet. We Sox fans know that losing is a big incentive to win and teams can always come back. The last game was very close and now the Rockies will be at home. They're probably mad and will have that Rocky Mountain air in their favor. I'm nervous!!
jac - Welcome back! Thanks for the team support! ; )
