Some Things Stay The Same

It was drizzling while I was driving to my parents on the 4th of July. When I took this picture, it was still pretty warm. The air was still and I was feeling calm and relaxed. I've been driving by this field for decades. At this time of year, the field is always low, but by mid-August it will be tall with corn or grass that will become hay. I'm not sure what was planted this year, but it's nice to see familiar things. I pulled over to the side of the road and took this picture.

When I got to my parents house, my mom showed me some of the flowers and plants that she has this season.

Aren't they beautiful?

I love sunflowers. My mom was never a big sunflower fan, but started growing them especially for me. Now she loves them too! This patch by the side of my parents' house will soon have sunflowers. I cannot wait to see them!

Sunflowers are great. I've always been an impatient gardener and I like the way they grow so big in just one season. Already got my seeds in, but a bit late this year due to all the floods etc.

Are those two clumps of lavender in the corners on that last photo? Lovely!

I love country roads and will choose them over the highway any day even if adds time to my drive.

Those lilies are just gorgeous Anali!

It is such a sense of comfort and belonging to see familiar sights and note that some things are the same especially amidst these times when everything is changing rapidly. I usually have to tear myself away from familiar sights and sounds...

I can imagine how happily you are awaiting the sunflowers. Hope you have a great weekend.

Thanks for sharing the pictures! I had some lillies like those this year except they were a very vibrant orange. They've already bloomed for the year, I really enjoyed them. They are the one flower that I planted last year that actually came back :)

barkfoot - They are an amazing flower. Although my mom had some problems with birds and squirrels eating the seeds, which snapped off the flowers. She thought one of her neighbors was cutting them until she saw a squirrel!

nance - I think they might be. She has them all over. Oh and my lavender is not doing so well. : (

lotus reads - My parents live way out in the burbs, so there are many sights like this. When I was little, it was serious farm country. Many of the farms were sold to developers and there are tons of new houses now.

asha - I do love how they look toward the sun. Just like us! Maybe that's why people like them so much. I think there is something innate in us that wants to be near the sun.

After I did this post, I realized that it was Live Earth Day. It was fitting that my post celebrated nature! I watched some of the performances last night. It was pretty amazing. Enjoy your weekend too!

cynthia - I totally agree with you about the comfort of familiar sights. It's like macaroni & cheese for your eyes! Does that makes sense? ; ) I hope you're having a great weekend too!

nina - You're welcome! Lillies are really beautiful and the scented ones are intoxicating.

kaylee - You're welcome! And belated Happy Birthday again! I remember my mom bought me a single rose for my 16th or 17th birthday and I thought it was just the coolest thing. I think that's when I started to really like having flowers.

mosilager - Thank you Doctor! ; ) I updated the name of your blog on my sidebar. Sorry it took so long!

It looks like your folks live in some beautiful surroundings. I can almost hear the dragonflies buzzing in that field, warm and humid, the smell of freshly-mown grass. I wish I had a piece of tall grass to put between my teeth right now :-)

And make sure you post pics of the sunflowers as they bloom!!!
