Great Movie - Kung Fu Hustle

Last night I watched Kung Fu Hustle, by Stephen Chow. What a great movie! I thought I was going to like it, but I LOVED it!!

It starts out pretty violently, but has such a great sense of humor throughout that it gets you through the gore. The cinematography is amazing and it has a great story. Even though it is an action movie, it's also a love story at its heart. The fight scenes just blew me away. They are simply stunning. Some people have a problem with special effects ruining the purity of kung fu, but I don't mind it. There is great music and dancing. The film style and story is like a cartoon and there are several nods to other movies that you notice along the way too. I can't say much more, but I highly recommend this movie. I should have seen it sooner and it probably would have been even better in the theater on a big screen.

weird meme, anali -- I *almost* posted on this movie today -- but it was to bring attention to The God of Cookery -- a Hong Kong movie that came out in 1996 that had the same camp spirit as Kung Fu Hustle and also stars Stephen Chow. with your love of cooking AND Kung Fu Hustle I think you would love it -- I embedded the link above. :)

This is a movie I've avoided strictly because of the title. Maybe I'll give it a chance now.

I found myself chuckling during your review of this film; it sounds like it has virtually everything a movie could possibly have! Violence, a love story, great cinematography, a good plot, humor, special effects, music, dancing, and even KUNG FU! I am beside myself trying to figure it all out!!

tera - You're welcome!

suttonhoo - Thanks for letting me know about the movie. It sounds great, but it may be hard to find. I just searched on Blockbuster online and they didn't have it. They usually have everything. I'll have to do some more searching.

nina - Oh definitely give it a chance!

kaylee - It's really good! But you may be too young... ; )

sanjay - You're welcome!
