A Taste For Something New

Last night I was up until 4:30 am working on my template. I didn't start working on it until 11:30 though. I came home from a nice barbecue and had all kinds of energy. As you can see, I've made some changes. I felt like it was time for some blog housekeeping. I wanted to see new colors and have more space to work with.

I've been contemplating adding a left sidebar for months, but have been terrified that I would destroy everything. I found a really great blog called Beautiful Beta that walked me through the whole thing. If you're interested, here is a link to the post. I was able to make each change bit by bit and see that I was on the right track. Also, I saved a copy of my template on a Word document, just in case. After I added the sidebar, I played with the colors. Before I knew it, I started seeing the first glimmers of dawn. I figured it was time to go to bed and I could do my posting later. I might even make some more changes over the next few days.

And I just ate this bowl of granola that you now see. It was really good. I made it this past weekend. I didn't measure most ingredients, except for that I used about 2 1/2 cups of oatmeal, because that's all I had left. I followed the basic instructions of these two recipes here and here. I used honey, maple syrup, vanilla extract, walnuts, cashews, raisins, grapeseed oil, sea salt, and shredded coconut. It was pretty easy and probably made enough to last me for a couple of weeks.

Also this weekend, I saw Waitress, the new Keri Russell movie. I loved it! It was just what I wanted it to be. I had high expectations and loved it even more. I loved the televison show Felicity, so I've been a fan of hers for years. Here is a link to the movie blog and where I found the picture. It's a quirky little film with wonderful characters and elegant baking scenes. Jenna, the main character creates amazing pies. The way they visualized her mental process of creating the pies was done really well and I especially loved those scenes. Both my friend and I really enjoyed the film and the audience seemed to love it as well. There were several really funny scenes and everyone laughed right along. I think this could be the sleeper hit of the year.

And I have to mention Andy Griffith. He played a wonderful role as old Joe. You'll love his character too. The main song that Jenna sings is a food lullaby that you may find yourself humming after you leave the movie. It's beautiful and will break your heart. The whole movie is bittersweet. Everyone in the theater stayed to watch the credits, which is always a good sign. We just couldn't get enough!

What's so sad about the movie is that the Director and Screenwriter Adrienne Shelly was brutally murdered last fall. The movie was dedicated to her at the end. I just realized now looking at the blog that she was also one of the lead actresses in the movie and that she had a Boston connection. She went to BU's School of Communication. Based on what I've seen of her work here, she was amazingly talented and had a very gentle way about her. I'm going to look for her other films. Waitress is a great film. I highly recommend it.

I like your new digs. :) I loved your review for the waitress. I had not realized that Adrienne Shelly was the one behind this movie, that is just so terrible. I saw the trailer for the movie this weekend, and it did seem like a nice movie, but might catch it on DVD.

I love how you made the oatmeal too, I don't measure mine, I take maybe a cup, add some walnuts, raisins and maple syrup. I do toss in blueberries or strawberries as well. Makes for a healthy hearty start to the day no?

I was wondering if that was Andy Griffith I saw in the commercials - now I know. Thanks!

The new look is nice, by the way.

That is one late night for bloggin!
Looks good! I am scared to death to play with my template for fear that all my content will disappear into the blog hole. Course, I was also afraid of computers in general til I was 25, so who knows, could still be a project for another day.

You know, I finally "moved to New Blogger", but didn't do any customizing because I'd lose everything in the sidebar and my counter and everything (or at least that is what I've heard). I just don't know if I'd really do anything all that different. I see all your right-hand sidebar is now at the bottom. Very different layout...but you are the adaptation warrior!

I like your blog's new look Anali. It's been ages since I've done anything to mine...thank you for providing a link to "Beautiful Beta", I am tempted to go check them out.

Glad you liked "Waitress", I thought it looked really good from the few previews I saw. I saw "Away From Her" this weekend...it was an intense movie and very, very moving.

Hello Anali,

Love the new look! I tried one night to give my blog the 3 columns and waved the white flag after several hours (lol). I will however, get a nice face lift in the near future. Your site looks very nice – great job!

Happy Sipping!

jac - Thank you! Glad you like it cuz! ; )

kaylee - Thanks! I love granola! You have a great day too! Lucky you on summer vacation!

asha - I thought I was going to make some more changes, but I've been doing corrections recently. I keep finding out that different parts weren't looking right and have required fixing. Oh well, that's what happens with experiments!

sanjay - I like blueberries on my granola too, but I have none in the house. This morning I used dried cherries. That was really good!

suldog - You're welcome and thanks!

amisha - I've been hearing a lot of mixed reviews about Spiderman 3. I waited for the DVD for the first two, so maybe I'll do the same for this one.

wheresmymind - It sure was, but the time went by so fast. It was actually kind of fun.

endangered coffee - Welcome! Thank you! It scared me too, but nothing ventured nothing gained. I figure that in the end, I'll be able to make it work. I'm sure you'll be able to too! ; )

nance - The right sidebar was not supposed to be at the bottom! This is so weird. On my computer at home, it looked perfectly normal. When I went onto another computer yesterday, I could see the sidebar was down on the bottom. Last night I tried to fix it, so that they are all level again. Did it work? I can't tell from here.

lotus reads - Thank you! I've noticed that you change your picture every once in a while. You look great! I need to get a new one on here. I'm starting to get sick of the old one. I hadn't heard of "Away From Her." I have to go look at your review again.

dezel - Thanks! I'm still trying to fix some of the unintended side effects of the new look! ; )

First, I'm envious that you are talented enough to change the template yourself!

As for the movie, I LOVED it also and everyone should see it!

i love the new look, anali... i've been thinking about adding a right-side bar to my blog, too, but i think i'll have to ponder it over a few drinks before finally committing to the change: sip - "anali did it and it looks great!" - sip - another sip - "anali did it and it looks great..."

oh yeah, that GRANOLA looks delicious... i'll have to ponder making something like that over a few drinks, too! *smile*
I went to see The Valet but was disappointed. And the critics were wild about it. I'm glad you liked yours.

punditmom - I don't know how talented I am, but thanks! It's a lot of trial and error. I'd see this movie again. Didn't you just LOVE the song at the end!!??

plez - Thank you! And pondering over a few drinks is always fun! ; )

susan - I've never heard of "The Valet" and I guess that's okay based on your experience. Go see "Waitress!" You'll love it!

This doesn't have anything to do with the movie, but I love the photo of the bread in your banner. I want to eat that bread... : )

I want to eat the banner bread as well.

The granola picture took me back to childhood memories of making homemade granola with my mom. I really need to get her recipe because it's hers is really good.

jennifer - Thank you!

liz - Thanks! I hope you find the recipe! Cooking with my mom are some of my best childhood memories too!

tera - I'm glad you like! ; )
Anali, I like the new design very much and I can smell the bread in your banner. Delicious picture.

I saw Waitress, too, (as you know) and thought it was wonderful-- esp., as you said, her creative process in coming up with the pie recipes.
