On Election Eve: A Guest Post

It's Election Eve here in the United States. Tomorrow is a big day. My mom wrote another guest post, which is below. But first I want to encourage everyone to vote tomorrow!

Also, I want to share links to the party platforms. I don't understand undecided voters, but I guess there are always many. Sometimes it's not about the local or state leader, but about what party we think will best lead the country. The President can only do so much. The party in control of the Senate and the House of Representatives matters.

I cannot pretend to be neutral. I'm a Democrat. For anyone who has experienced unemployment during this recession, you may have counted on unemployment benefits to survive. Unfortunately, I know more than I ever wanted to know based on personal experience. Republicans fought the extensions time after time. Democrats moved the legislation through. That's not the only issue, but there are many issues where there are clear difference between the agendas of the Republicans and Democrats.

Please take a look at the links:

And now for my mom's guest post.
A few weeks ago, there was a slaughter of four people including a mother and her toddler. They were all in the street and the two men were found naked. Recently a mother of four was murdered, caught in crossfire.

The community responded with candlelight vigils. They help heal, but don't change anything. They are a 20th century response to a 21st century problem. Candles are a short-term light solution, but the light goes out. There is no power.

Real power turns the light on and brightens the way. That power is achieved through voting. A community with no voting history is not taken seriously. After a short time passes, officials and police forget about the needs of that community.

Going to the polls on November 2nd, makes a strong statement and is the beginning of growing power. We must go in force to City Hall and the State House, demanding changes, and voting in people who understand what needs to be done and how to do it.

Lastly we must take back the streets from 21st century thugs by identifying them, putting their names and faces in the light before the streets become like those in Mexican border towns.

This election season, $4 BILLION has been spent in national political advertising. I wince when I hear the number because I am keenly away of the mass amounts of people who survive living below the poverty level. Imagine if that money was used on those who need it?

I have encouraged all I know to get out and vote.

For me, tomorrow is the Emperor's Coronation Day. May it be a great day to celebrate the gift of life.

se'lah - That number makes me ill too. So much could have been done with it. I hope you had a great Emperor's Coronation Day!

vickie - Yes! I voted later in the day, but I made it!

sharlene - That's strange that it was so empty. You must have been very early!
