Behind The Frosting: CupcakeCamp Boston

Have you been up days and nights wondering about CupcakeCamp Boston? When is it happening? How did it get started?

Who is behind the frosting? Okay, you asked. Here's the sweet scoop.

“It’s about time Boston hosted a CupcakeCamp,” said Elizabeth Ginsburg, CupcakeCamp Boston Event Organizer. “This city is rife with talented cupcake bakers, both amateur and professional. CupcakeCamp will provide them all with the opportunity to showcase their creations.”

Thanks to Elizabeth, the Boston area will be hosting its first CupcakeCamp next week on April 15th. While Elizabeth organized the event, there are some others who are helping out as well. Anita, of the blog Anita's Gigabits and Jen, of the blog Beantown Baker. And there's me from well, here!

Let me tell you. This has been fun! I wish there was a way that this could be a job, because I love to talk about cupcakes. We're making our way around the Boston area and contacting bakeries for cupcake donations.

So far, we have some wonderful bakeries participating:

Petsi Pies
Sugar Bakery
Treat Cupcake Bar
Sweet
Montilio's
Sadie's Designer Cakes & Pastries
Sin Cupcakes
Fiore's Italian Bakery
Babycakes
Cherry Bomb Bakery
Couture Cupcakes
Mix Bakery
Fratelli's

The list continues to grow as we receive confirmations from more bakeries!

The History of CupcakeCamp

CupcakeCamp is an ad-hoc gathering born from the desire for people to share and eat cupcakes in an open environment. It's a free event where like minded cupcake loving individuals gather together to eat cupcakes.

Ariel Waldman is the founder of CupcakeCamp. CupcakeCamp started in 2008, but it's grown into a full-blown worldwide phenomenon. Check out the list of places that have had or are in the planning stages of having their own CupcakeCamp. Also read this article by The Associated Press.

So finally, Boston is participating in CupcakeCamp. It will be here next Thursday evening, April 15th, at PA's Lounge in Somerville. Check out CupcakeCamp Boston on Facebook and RSVP for the event . So far, there are 340 confirmed guests.

Anyone can bring cupcakes. I'll be baking some cupcakes to bring too. If you'd like to bring cupcakes, you have until April 8th to register. Click here to sign up.

That's it for now. As more is revealed from behind the frosting, I'll make sure to let you know.

*Updated 4/6/10* - Breaking Cupcake News: I've decided on a flavor. I'll be bringing Chocolate Cupcakes with SoCo Frosting.

*Updated 4/14/10* The Boston Globe wrote a nice article and interviewed Elizabeth here. CupcakeCamp Boston is also new on: Facebook and Flickr. Check for pictures after Camp!
